After receiving the green light from city council in May, Westmana Development Corp. is marketing for early sales of its 65-unit condo development in Squamish.
The ParkHouse has been designed to appeal to a younger demographic, says Willie Kwun, one of the founders of Westmana. "Squamish is the outdoor recreation capital of Canada and is hugely attractive to young, active, nature-and-recreation enthusiasts," he says. "We wanted to build opportunities for people to be able to afford to live where they play.
With a junior one-bedroom priced at $189,900, ParkHouse "is the most attractively priced housing between Whistler and Maple Ridge," he says. Mr. Kwun hopes the project will strike the balance between an urban and natural lifestyle that will attract young professionals looking for an opportune investment.
ParkHouse is within walking distance of downtown Squamish and backs onto the Squamish Estuary, a 670-hectare protected area that is home to more than 200 species of birds, as well as harbour seals.
The smaller suites have been designed with "efficient living spaces" that mimic those found in downtown Vancouver, and the project aims to provide an urban setting within a natural landscape - a mix that Mr. Kwun believes the community of Squamish will soon be centred upon.
"A newly revitalized Squamish is developing as young, accomplished residents are driving demand for upscale stores and services," he says. "Access to outdoor recreation, stunning seascapes and mountain views, ease of access with the new Sea to Sky Highway to both Vancouver and Whistler, and an affordable price - all of this make Squamish an attractive and re-energized community," he says.
The four-storey development will contain four units designed with wide doors and five-foot turning circles in the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen for wheelchair accessibility, as well as six units that will comply with the Squamish's mixed-income housing initiative. "This is an opportunity to enter the real estate market in a community poised for growth," says Mr. Kwun.
