"Oceanfront plan gets expert help"

District and landowners retain Vancouver based planners
Squamish, B.C. – (May 8, 2008) – The SODC board now has some heavyweight help to guide the planning process.
Holland Barrs, an internationally renown planning and consultancy group, has been retained by the District of Squamish and the Peninsula Landholders Association (the PLA, which includes Westmana Development Corp. BCR and the SODC) to help with the master planning process of the oceanfront.
“It’s being paid for by the PLA, so there won’t be any cost to the taxpayer, but it brings to the table a level of planning that [District] staff couldn’t match in level of effort,” said District Planner Cameron Chalmers.
The group has long experience in master planning, especially in the area of sustainable development and green planning. Their client list includes the Resort Municipality of Whistler, Metro Vancouver, Island’s Trust, US Green Building Council, and the Fraser Basin Council to name just a few.
Since the pull-out of Qualex Landmark from the oceanfront project over a year and a half ago, there appears to have been little progress on the future of the project, but with Holland Barrs adding their expertise to the process, the District and other stakeholders hope to move the project forward.
