"Women's center holds grand opening"

Squamish, B.C.(May 9, 2008) - Mayor Ian Sutherland and Westmana principal Rene David will be cutting the ribbon to the building at the Howe Sound Women's Centre Society's grand celebration open house event on Wednesday (May 14) at their new building, 38021 Third Ave. The Women's Centre has invited the entire community to attend.

With the financial help of the Vancouver-based developer, which owned the former home of the Women's Centre on Loggers Lane, the Women's Center purchased and renovated its new home this past March.

The new building houses the centre's main offices, counseling support rooms, and potential second stage housing suites where women leaving abusive intimate relationships can stay for up to one year.

"We are absolutely thrilled to move into our new home," said Executive Director Allison Twiss. Twiss says a staggering number of trade and individual volunteer hours went into the completion of the renovation, which was completed on time and budget. "As an expression of our gratitude we will be having an open house and welcoming the community to celebrate with us in our new home."
