"New development will offer Squamish estuary as backyard"

Squamish, B.C. – (June 9, 2008) – Westmana Development Corporation has been given the green light to begin building its latest development in Squamish, on a site that offers owners walking distance to downtown and the Squamish estuary reserve as its backyard.

Squamish council granted Westmana the development permit in May for The ParkHouse, a 65-unit building of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom-and-den apartments starting from $189,900. Situated at 1150 Bailey Street in Squamish, the new development backs onto existing trails and the Squamish estuary, yet is a short walk to all amenities in downtown.

The estuary, a 673-hectare undeveloped and protected area, boasts extraordinary bird watching with more than 200 species identified. Songbirds as well as scoters, mergansers, loons and grebes make the nature reserve home, along with harbour seals.

The four-storey building will feature four units adaptable for disabled residents, with wider doors and five-foot turning circles in the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen for wheelchairs. Six units will also comply with the District of Squamish’s mixed-income housing initiative. Architect for the project is Studio One Architecture, with the project managed by Ken Seidel of Syncra Construction Corp.

Westmana will begin marketing early sales for The ParkHouse next month.

Squamish council also unanimously gave Westmana’s first development on the oceanfront lands third reading at its meeting on June 3. Although a development permit has not yet been completed for this development, MirEAU will be the first of a series of new development projects along the Mamquam Blind Channel. MirEAU is planned as a 52-unit glass and cedar residential and commercial development that will give Squamish residents access to a waterfront walkway that Westmana will complete as part of the development.
